Understanding the Supernatural Power: A Call to Genuine Faith

The supernatural power of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Father can often seem like a mystery to many. As a believer, I strive to avoid both over-spiritualizing and under-spiritualizing our faith. The acceptance of the supernatural gift of Jesus and the transformation of individuals who come to Christ is a profound and joyous reality. However, why does the supernatural power of Jesus Christ remain elusive to so many?

Cultural Influences on Faith

In America, many Christians find their faith shaped more by cultural influences than by Christ Himself. We should aim to be Christian Americans, where our identity as Christians dictates how we engage with our culture, rather than allowing cultural norms to define our faith.

Our society places a high value on intellectualism. The pressure to produce new ideas or information can overshadow the importance of spiritual truths. This hyper-intellectualization has led to a situation where scientific facts are often emotionally interpreted and reality is sometimes distorted.

Science, once viewed in clear terms of black and white with some gray areas, has become increasingly fluid. This shift reflects a broader cultural trend towards prioritizing emotional intelligence and personal perception over objective reality. This is not to diminish the value of science or emotional intelligence but to highlight how these can sometimes overshadow the supernatural aspects of faith.

Faith in the Face of Suffering

Consider the moment in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus prayed to the Father, sweating blood and asking if it was possible for the cup of suffering to pass from Him (Luke 22:44). Jesus' prayer was an expression of His human desire to avoid a brutal death, yet it was also a profound act of faith and obedience. Jesus’ submission to the Father’s will, even in the face of immense suffering, demonstrates His unwavering belief in the Father’s supernatural power and divine plan.

This passage not only shows Jesus’ obedience but also His deep trust in the Father’s ability and will. Jesus' faith did not waver, even when the outcome was not what He desired. He accepted the Father’s will and aligned Himself with it completely.

The Challenge of Faith

Many of us go to God in prayer but may not fully believe in His supernatural power or trust in His will. As Scripture teaches, this lack of faith can hinder our experience of God’s answers (James 1:6).

So, I ask you: Do you truly have faith in His supernatural power? How does this faith manifest in your daily life? Reflect on how your belief in God's supernatural abilities influences your actions, decisions, and interactions with others.
