The New Religion: Government as the Modern Deity

The government has become our religion.
It dictates morality,
becomes the arbiter of our disputes,
and is the deity we worship.
We have traded a caring deity
for an impersonal institution.
The government is our “God,” our “Lord,”
and we bend to its will,
even when it causes us harm.
God never wanted mere religiousness;
He desires a genuine relationship with us,
a connection that these institutions fail to display.
This is why Jesus illuminates a relationship,
while some church institutions may illuminate religion,
the same as the government,
without a relationship to God.
It raises itself above,
as though it is the ultimate creator,
redesigning values at will.

America says,
“Abortion is permissible.”
“A fetus is not a baby.”
"Sleep with whoever you want, it's pleasurable."
“Parents have no right to their child's moral upbringing.”
“You can be anything that you want.”
Rome said,
"Reason surpasses emotional attachment."
"Pleasure is essential to life's fulfillment."
"Every belief holds some truth."
"Nature and reason should guide moral decisions."
All of this is utterly empty!
The government will literally drug you out of reality,
distort the truth,
and we will criticize the church for similar actions
while ignoring the government’s role.
Humanity continues to choose its rulers,
even without official crowns or thrones.
We still select our sovereigns,
but I have chosen a different ruler.
I am a servant to a higher authority
than any government.
May my poetry inspire others to choose a better master.
America is the continuation of Rome’s trajectory,
fulfilling what Rome never achieved.
The concern is that America’s downfall
may be more catastrophic than Rome’s,
even if it doesn’t involve war on the land.
